MAKING PIPING
Choose the size of piping cord to suit the project: on smaller bags, a more delicate piping is usually chosen, but chunky piping can have great impact!
1 Steam press the piping cord and piping fabric before starting. Cord is usually 100% cotton and can shrink later, creating unsightly wrinkles.
2 To determine the width of the piping fabric, measure the circumference of the cord by wrapping a soft tape measure around it, then add twice the seam allowance of the bag you’ll be sewing it to; 1cm (3⁄8in) is a common seam allowance for bags. Cut the piping fabric on the bias (at a 45-degree angle) as long as you can, and to the width required.
